Nightfall Guard

Descent is a challenging mode in Tom Clancy's The Division 2, and it’s not very popular because of its difficulty even for experienced agents. In this guide, we’ll break down the key aspects of Descent and provide advice on how to succeed. We’ll also highlight a few things you may not know that can help you along the way.
Descent is a four-player mode with unlimited levels, known as Loops. At the start, you won’t have any gear, talents, or weapons only a pistol. Your goal is to build up your character as you progress through the loops. It's all about survival. Early on, your character will be weak, with low damage, minimal Armor, and basic weapons. If you’re up for the challenge, Descent is the mode for you.
We highly recommend playing Descent when the Envy Talent Pool is active, as it offers the best talents, making your runs significantly easier. We suggest that players focus on playing Descent exclusively during the Envy Talent Pool for the optimal experience.
Why You Should Play Descent in Division 2
Playing Descent lets you earn NSA Tech currency, which can be spent at the NSA Station you can used them to buy Reconstructed Caches, Exotic Caches, Named Item Caches, outfits, and Permanent buffs for future Descent runs.
Exclusive Rewards: Reconstructed Caches are exclusive to Descent mode, and they provide blueprints for named items.
Exclusive Exotic Weapon: In the NSA Station, you can purchase an exclusive exotic rifle called the Vindicator for 350 NSA Tech currency.
Vindicator talent: While scoped, the weapon will highlight a random body section of each enemy. The weapon amplifies damage by +60% Weapon Damage to highlighted body sections.

Exclusive outfits: In the NSA Station, you can purchase an exclusive blue, red, yellow and green Descent uniforms just to flex.
Play 2 Player Co-Op
You can play Descent solo and still defeat the Nemesis boss and progress through higher loops, but we recommend finding a partner who also wants to earn blueprints. It’s much easier with two players. Avoid playing with three or four players if you’re serious about getting blueprints, as it becomes more challenging with more people. Be sure to use voice chat, as communication is crucial for success.
When playing solo, you can use the Reviver Hive, but it can be buggy and might not always revive you. You have a higher chance of success when playing with a friend, as they can pick you up if needed.
Some players reach Nemesis, kill him, and restart, but we don’t recommend this. You want to earn as much NSA Tech as possible. After defeating Nemesis, you can continue playing and earn more NSA Tech through higher loops. More loops = more boss rooms, and higher loops provide better rewards.
Keep in mind, you can't save your progress and continue later, which makes it even more challenging. Also, watch out for server resets—if your friend experiences one, they won't be able to join back into your session, which can be a big setback.
Descent Difficulty
Easy Rooms: Simple to complete but increase your Nemesis Heat, meaning you’ll face him sooner.
Medium Rooms: A good balance between difficulty and time to build your character.
Hard Rooms: Provide more time to build up your character before facing Nemesis.
After Nemesis: Room difficulty no longer matters after you defeat Nemesis. We recommend focusing on easy rooms to minimize the risk of dying.
High Loops: Eventually, you'll only have the option to do hard rooms. Make sure to build your character before that happens, and choose rooms based on the talents you need to upgrade red, blue, or yellow.
Enemies: In high loops, you'll face Black Tusk, Rogue Agents, and various status effects, making the challenges even tougher.
Good Run for Blueprints
You may not be able to do it on your first try, but aim to reach Loop 30 at least in each run. By then, you'll earn some Reconstructed Caches and accumulate over 1000 NSA Tech currency. With this, you should be able to get between 6 to 10 blueprints per run, or more, depending on your luck. A good Descent run can take 4 to 7 hours of game time.
Status Effects
You need to take advantage of Status Effects in Descent, as there are many talents for status effects listed below. These talents allow you to boost weapon damage by a significant amount and make the Nemesis boss unable to move or deal damage to you when he is under status effects. Status effects can also help with Rogue Agents, giving you more time to kill them if they are on fire or blinded. Yellow talents are recommended for an easier run; don't be afraid to use them.
What Talents You Should Pick from the Envy Talent Pool
Exotic Talents
Bullet Hell | Allows you to shoot without reloading, which is critical for maintaining sustained damage in high loops. |
Plague of the Outcasts | Applies a debuff dealing 75% weapon damage over 10 seconds, stacking up to 50 times. The debuff spreads on kill within 7 meters. |
Payment in Kind | Grants 200% critical hit damage. Combine it with Bullet Hell to avoid worrying about bleed damage. |
"Payment in Kind" should be the last talent you pick, as you need "Bullet Hell" first and a high rate of fire weapon. Upgrade the "Allegro" talent to at least tier 5 before you get "Payment in Kind."
Offensive Talents
Allegro | At Tier 10, the talent increases your rate of fire by 75%. |
Surgical | At Tier 10, the talent provides a 50% critical hit chance. |
Obliterate | At Tier 10, this talent grants a 180% increase to weapon damage. |
Vigilance | At Tier 10, this talent provides a 100% increase to weapon damage when active. |
Critical | At Tier 10, this talent grants 100% critical hit damage. |
Strained | At Tier 10, this talent provides 250% critical hit damage. |
Try to get Surgical first and upgrade it to at least Tier 5. Then, focus on getting the Obliterate talent, followed by Critical and Strained.
Defensive Talents
Focus on Entrenched before the Nemesis encounter, as other talents won't work. You can get the rest of the talents after you kill the boss.
Preservation | At Tier 10, this talent restores 70% of your armor on kill. |
Entrenched | At Tier 10, this talent repairs 100% of your armor when hitting headshots from cover with armor below 75%. |
Clutch | At Tier 10, this talent repairs 50% of missing armor with critical hits when your armor is below 24%. |
Adrenaline Rush | At Tier 10, this talent grants 30% bonus armor per enemy within 10 meters of you, stacking up to 3 times. |
The order does not matter for these talents, but "Adrenaline Rush" should be the last talent. Upgrade the others to tier 10 first.
Utility Talents
You need Eyeless, Sadist, Ignited, and Trauma before the Nemesis encounter. You only need to buy them once; there's no need to upgrade them. You can upgrade them after you kill Nemesis.
Eyeless | At Tier 10, this talent grants 65% weapon damage against blinded enemies. After 2 kills, it applies Blind to the next enemy you hit. |
Sadist | At Tier 10, this talent grants 65% weapon damage against bleeding enemies. After 2 kills, it applies bleed to the next enemy you hit. |
Ignited | At Tier 10, this talent grants 65% weapon damage against burning enemies. After 2 kills, it applies burn to the next enemy you hit. |
Trauma | At Tier 10, this talent applies Blind to the enemy hit in the head for 23 seconds and applies Bleed to the enemy hit in the chest for 23 seconds. |
Lucky Shot | At Tier 10, this talent ensures you never miss a shot and saves ammo. |
The order does not matter for these talents. The "Lucky Shot" talent only works at Tier 10 and can provide unlimited ammo, if it's not bugged. It works especially well with "Bullet Hell." Get "Lucky Shot" after you acquire "Bullet Hell" and after you kill Nemesis.
